On the 20th of July Ralph and his family visited Mom and Dad and took dinner in. Mom had been visited by her Bishop and Stake President. Earlier in the day she had many other visitors to include her older sister Lou. It is evident that Mother is loved by many people. Paul was also there so we played some string duets out of the hymn book. Mom and Dad really enjoyed visiting with loved ones. Mom we love you and pray daily that you are comfortable. Ralph

You've Inspired Me to Great Heights

Dear Mom,

Today I carried you in my backpack to the top of Mt Baldy. Recently, I started dedicating my hikes to special people in my life...and this one was dedicated to you! I thought of you every step of the way, and as the trail got steeper and more challenging I thought of all that you have endured in the past year and how bravely you have battled your illness. You have been an incredible example as you have remained so pleasant and have had such a positive attitude through it all!! Thinking of my sweet mother helped me make it to the top of the mountain today, and you surely would have heard from me at the very moment I reached the summit except that at 10,064 ft I couldn't get any reception on my cell phone! I thought you might enjoy these pictures of my hike that you unknowingly participated in. I will always cherish the memories I have of our Pencil Point hike from so many years ago. Thanks for helping me climb so many mountains in my life--in other words, thanks for always believing in me, encouraging me and loving me. I love you Mom!

Love, Joanie

Ruth, A Classic Beauty

My Dad and I were watching the 2001 movie, Pearl Harbor, on television the other night when I noticed a striking resemblance between the lead actress, Kate Beckinsale, and Ruth as a young woman. The style of the film and the time in which it is set reminded me of the great WWII era photos of my grandparents. The next day I asked my mom if she would pull out her old photographs of Grandma and Grandpa, and we had a lot of fun looking through them. Ruth was a beautiful young woman who perfectly epitomized that classic 40s style.

Ruth graduated from Utah State in 1945 and began working as a physical therapist at Bushnell General Hospital in Brigham City. She was one of the first physical therapists in the state of Utah! I love this picture of her in her uniform; again, I thought of Grandma when I saw images of Kate Beckinsale as a nurse in the film. At the hospital, Ruth met Ferral Ogilvie, who then introduced her to his cousin, Ed Ogilvie. On their first fateful meeting, she recalls riding in Ferral's rumble seat with Ed. From the look of these photos, it's not hard to imagine that Ed must surely have been attracted to Ruth from that very first meeting in the rumble seat!

Dear Family,

Our hopes are that by creating this blog we can all stay connected to one another and to Grandma and Grandpa Ogilvie.

A very special thanks to John and Laurel for their brilliance and talent in initiating this blog so efficiently! The younger generation definitely knows soooooooo much more about computers than the rest of us old folks! As memories and experiences arise that you would like to share with the family, please feel free to do so.

Love ya,

Ralph and Wendy
